Physician turned Taipei Mayor, Ko embodies every aspect of a true entrepreneur. Ko is known for never accepting the status quo, and for always thinking outside of the box. Publishing his official policies on Gitbook and running his campaign on social media, Ko won the 2014 Taipei Mayoral Election to become the first non-partisan mayor of the city.

Having no previous government experience before becoming Taipei Mayor spares Ko from being influenced by "existing government practices," and allows him to be extremely innovative in his practices.

Before being elected mayor, he was an attending physician and Chairman of the Department of Traumatology at National Taiwan University Hospital. He was also a professor at National Taiwan University College of Medicine and specializes in trauma, intensive care, organ transplant, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), and artificial organs among others.Ko was responsible for standardizing organ transplant procedures in Taiwan, and was the first physician to bring ECMO to Taiwan.
